There is such a job  to scour the world in search of technological innovations. An advertisement can do a lot but sometimes we need to find out first what would be known to all after a couple of months. And I’m going on a business trip again. My last trip was in Norway, in the north country that is very modern in technologies and located close to my native England.
The purpose of my visit was 4-stroke outboards «Suzuki 90» and «Suzuki 115″ – right-flank model of the company, which is not in vain spent 35 years in the business of outboard motors. Sometimes so tempted to grab the mistakes and shortcomings of designers of new engine models. But this number I have not turned in relation to the latest innovations «Suzuki». Virtually silent operation, reliable starting and smooth, steady course at low speed release products «Suzuki» of the competition series. The quality of the design and motors – above all criticism.

Of course, user requests are growing, and engineers will never remain idle. It is terrible to imagine that 30 years ago the toxicity of emissions of engines in general no one was interested. Today, the focus of developers focused on creating a continuously operated ignition system, since it is a continuous combustion parameters can be controlled.

20 years ago it has become obvious problem of uneven distribution of oil in the fuel tank. Wild At first glance, the introduction of the idea of oil spraying it into the fuel mixture led to the development of engines with automatic dosage of oil. Consumers are quickly appreciated advantages of such technical solutions, and all other products at the same time hopelessly outdated.

Today, with the entry into force of the so-called “California” on environmental laws, motors, polluting nature, rather just will not be allowed on the market. It’s hard to think that they can bring the following ten years of coexistence of motors and nature? Guessing is difficult, and even more so – to look back, because the new «Suzuki» engines meet even the most stringent modern environmental standards. Hard to believe, but the new engines «Suzuki» not only satisfy the requirements for exhaust gas quality (the law of the California Air Resources Board), established in 2006, but significantly more stringent standards of 2008!

We will not go into details of what exactly is in the exhaust gases is reduced, but there is an impression that «Suzuki» Motors will soon be put in place of the indoor unit for air freshening. Not wanting to pass for an advertising agent, I must admit that I was not able to find weaknesses in the new engines «Suzuki 90» and «Suzuki 115″. One can not in fact be called a disadvantage that the road performance of my boat «Avon 560″ is not enough for it to absorb the entire «Suzuki 90″ power of the engine. For some reason, I was unable to strengthen the motor so that the vessel was held on the course. It did not help, and angle adjustment motor linkage or offset it relative to the longitudinal axis of the boat. I had prigruza ship in the area of the steering rack ballast from one side. Not too good solution, to be sure.

I figured that the big four-stroke engine can be set too high center of gravity, which in turn generates a moment, gone are the ship off course. However, new «Suzuki» motors are designed so that their center of gravity is similar to motors, for example, as in «Honda», so that the weight is above the cut transom, though the cylinder unit is rather low.

I had to try all the methods of detection of the motor displacement value to compensate for the withdrawal from the course. Uselessly. Rapid acceleration and equally rapid braking, abrupt switch to reverse and a long movement at the smallest speed: all the same. Somewhere under the hood hiding a powerful genie, but I could not find it. Strangely, if under the dazzling beauty of the engine hood of the future is not hiding some mystery. But a couple of thousand hours let it run for, and then …

For the most curious and meticulous can report specifications on both engines: in-line four-stroke, 4-cylinder, 16 valve, the volume of 1950 m3. The motors are equipped with multi-point sequential electronic fuel injection system (do not strain, I do not know what that means), fully electronic ignition, the gearbox has a gear ratio of 2.59: 1. That’s just it is clear: the more the first figure, the more power to the propeller.

Camshaft «Suzuki 90″ motor at maximum makes 5500 rev / min, and at «Suzuki 115.” – 6000 rev / min. The obvious question is why and how? What should be changed in the motor “90” to raise its turnover by almost 10%? Is it enough to simply reprogram the ignition control processor, or simply filling all the details “90” motor made 10% smaller size? Or maybe the whole thing in the price? It’s not like, because if we hope to make a good profit from the sale of “90” engine, what’s the point was to give the market a completely identical, but the more expensive model “115”? Strange …

Before than I take my hat off, so a generator. Once I had a chance to talk with the engineers «Mercury», touted in the brand new exhibition «Optimax» system. I distinctly remember burning sensation of relief when I realized that being with «Optimax», I save a bunch of batteries due to the complete inability to listen to my favorite FM station. High volts there, and all that. Foolishly, I asked one “Mercurians” something about protection against interference with the radio, so he almost incinerated me look … But with “the Suzuki” the situation is quite otherwise: from 40 Amps of current produced by the generator only 5 amps consumed by the ignition system. In combination with the ideal performance 1.4 – kilowatt starter motor confidently pretends he do not care about what you have there sticks out in both ears … Listen to your health!

There are, of course, a puncture and «Suzuki»: it is very heavy. Both “90” and “115” have a weight of 188.9 kg, about 20 kg more than the pair «Honda 90-115», 25 kg more than the «Yamaha 100″ and 14 kg heavier four- «Mariner Mercury 90″ and despite the fact that the dimensions in «Suzuki» less. This was partly achieved by experts «Suzuki» the price of giving up the belt drive for the benefit of the chain: the size is smaller and quieter operation. Over the years, the chain is also beginning to rattle, but somehow it does not seem to me that «Suzuki» will act on your nerves. Fuel consumption is not too small, but it certainly rivals should “hang” is already in the morning, if at 6000 rev / min. «Suzuki» actually require up to 55 liters per hour, then at 4000 rev / min.
